What if I arrive/depart into/from Rotorua on a different day?

We can organise extra nights accommodation at The Millennium. Please let us know on your booking form. If you arrive earlier than Day 1 or depart after Day 6 of tour, you will need to organise your own transfers.

Can I leave early from the tour?

Yes we can organise this, no problem. Please email us or call on +61 430 121 776. To confirm, there will be a reduced rate, this will be confirmed via email when we know the exact dates of your arrival and departure.

I want to spoil myself and get some massages.

Great, we can organise as many massages as you would like, please send us an email to confirm the details - info@twowheeltours.com.au - prices start from around $90 NZD per one hour session.

What level of rider do I need to be?

The beauty of riding in Rotorua is that the trail network is vast and it suits all levels of ability. This tour is for all levels of riders from Beginner through to Advanced level of riders.

The fitter you are the more fun you will have so get on your bike and start training.

Do I get a t-shirt?

Yes - one specifically made for our tour by Gaz at NZO.

What is the attire when we are not on the bike?

Rotorua can get cold.

The warmest months are January, February and March, where the average temperature can reach 27°C (78°F), while the coolest months are June, July and August, where the minimum temperature ranges between 9°C-13°C (50°F-55°F).

What is the attire when we are on the bike?

Your usual attire on the bike, plus don't forget to pack your baggie shorts. Sure you can bring your lycra but 99% will be wearing shorts over the top.

Temperature Ranges:

Summer (Dec – Feb): Daytime 21°C – 29°C
Autumn (Mar – May): Daytime 15°C – 26°C
Winter (Jun – Aug): Daytime 9°C – 16°C
Spring (Sep – Nov): Daytime 13°C– 21°C (source www.tourism.net.nz

Each night we walk to dinner and the venues are all laid back, jeans and t-shirts are more than okay, you can leave your formal wear at home.

What can I do if I don't want to ride for one of the sesssions?

Riders will be able to ride as much as they want.

This tour is also aimed at riders who want to ride in NZ and let their hair down with plenty of down time available if you want to relax!

We want this to be a tour where riders can just ride, no stress on racing but ride with like minded people and have a fantastic time.

The hotel is great, it is very comfortable and if you just want to relax in their spa you can. Book a massage, sit in the thermal waters and just soak. You can also head over to the Polynesian Spa - voted as one of the top 10 day spas in the world and it is located just a stones throw from the hotel.

There are also some great places in Rotorau to grab lunch, coffee or a milkshake.

Do I have to do shuttle runs in the Whaka and also Skyline?

The answer is no.

There are many runs from the top of the shuttle / gondala to the bottom. All trails from the top are classified from Grade 3 - 5 on a scale. One Grade 3 trail in the Whaka Forest will take you around 15-20mins long, it doesn't have any jumps and is like a super highway.

While on Skyline the runs are shorter but there are trails for different levels of ability.

Just how good is Skyline Rotorua?

It's amazing, no really - it's amazing! There are lines for everyone, even the most difficult runs, with gap jumps, table tops etc all have 'b' lines. You'll have an amazing time riding the trails there in Rotorua.

Want to read more about it? Here is a link to the Flow MTB story by Gary Sullivan from NZO.

Can I do more shuttles?

We will be running private shuttles in the Whaka Forest, that way we can shuttle as much as we want during those times. Once again, the riding is second to none in Rotorua.

Can I do more gondola runs at Skyline Rotorua?

You will receive a 15 run pass to use at Skyline as part of our tour. If you would like to ride at the MTB park for longer that is more than okay. Please note - at your own cost.

Do I need to bring pads / full face helmet?

Bring pads if that is what you are comfortable to ride in, a full face helmet is not necessary. During our tours to NZ we rarely have people wearing full face helments, just those who are hard-core. We are finding that more and more people are wearing knee and elbow pads, if you use them at home, bring them. If you're 50/50 on whether to bring them, bring them.

Will someone be there to help build my bike?

Yes, we will have someone there to assit with building and breaking down the bikes.

Can I hire a bike in Rotorua?

Yes, this is no problem at all. We can get you a current model dual suspension bike, either Specialized or Giant - the cost is around $99 NZD per day. Please contact us for more information on hire bikes - info@twowheeltours.com.au. The will be there waiting for you at the hotel for when you arrive.

What is not included on the tour?

  • Flights
  • Insurance - travel or personal
  • Bike hire
[Bike Hire can be organised - please contact to confirm]
  • Lunches
  • Coffees/teas/alcohol
  • Nutritional snacks such as gel's and bars
  • Hotel charges such as mini bar and phone

How much extra money should I bring along?

Allow for $15 NZD per day for lunch. Add in a few dollars if you are an avid coffee drinker and a few more dollars if you would like an extra beer or two. We cover the first round of drinks each night.

Packing suggestions

You can fit everything that you need for the MTB tour in a bike box and your one carry on - if you have a light bike box/cardboard box. In the bike box will have your bike, tires slightly deflated (no need to take air out of your shock), hydra pack, tubes and most of your clothing (packed in plastic bags/zip lock bags). Put anything and everything to take the weight up to the maximum weight 23kg (Max weight for Air NZ).

This then means that you only need to pay for only one checked bag. Please make sure that you are under the baggage limit of 23kg (Air NZ), airlines are now super strict and the costs are high!

In your carry on, have your helmet and shoes, just in case your bag does not make the final destination.

The 'dress code' for dinner is laid back, jeans and t-shirts are more than okay.
