The fitter you are the more fun you will have so get on your bike and start training.

Do I get a t-shirt?

Yes - one specifically made for our tour by Gaz at NZO.

What is the attire when we are not on the bike?

Rotorua can get cold.

The warmest months are January, February and March, where the average temperature can reach 27°C (78°F), while the coolest months are June, July and August, where the minimum temperature ranges between 9°C-13°C (50°F-55°F).

Each night we walk to dinner and the venues are all laid back, jeans and t-shirts are more than okay, you can leave your formal wear at home.

Why offer a Women's only tour?

This tour is run alongside an 'Open Tour' but we will split the group into Women's group(s) with separate shuttles and guides.

We have been running tours since 2009 and have run dozens of women only tours, many in combination with Gear Up Girl. We find that tours have a completely different 'vibe' when they are women only.

These tours are conducted in a no pressure environment. We will spend time working on skill development during the tour and go over certain parts of trails to work on skills.

Riders will be able to ride as much as they want.

This tour is also aimed at riders who want to ride in NZ and let their hair down with plenty of down time available if you want to relax!

We want this to be a tour where all levels of riders can just ride, no stress on racing but ride with like minded people and have a fantastic time.

What can I do if I don't want to ride for one of the sesssions?

The hotel is great, it is very comfortable and if you just want to relax in their spa you can. Book a massage, sit in the thermal waters and just soak. You can also head over to the Polynesian Spa - voted as one of the top 10 day spas in the world and it is located just a stones throw from the hotel.

There are also some great places in Rotorau to grab lunch, coffee or a milkshake.

Do I have to do shuttle runs?

The answer is no.

There are many runs from the top of the shuttle to the bottom. All trails from the top are classified from Grade 3 - 5 on a scale. One Grade 3 trail will take you around 15-20mins long, it doesn't have any jumps and is like a bermed super luge highway.

Can I do more shuttles?

We will be running private shuttles in the Waka Forest, that way we can shuttle as much as we want during those times. Once again, the riding is second to none in Rotorua.

Do I need to bring pads / full face helmet?

Bring pads if that is what you are comfortable to ride in, a full face helmet is not necessary. During our tours to NZ we rarely have people wearing full face helments, just those who are hard-core.

Will someone be there to help build my bike?

Yes, we will have someone there to assit with building and breaking down the bikes.

Can I hire a bike in Rotorua?

Yes, this is no problem at all. We can get you a current model dual suspension bike, either Specialized or Giant - the cost is around $99 NZD per day. Please contact us for more information on hire bikes - The will be there waiting for you at the hotel for when you arrive.

What is not included on the tour?

  • Flights
  • Insurance - travel or personal
  • Bike hire
[Bike Hire can be organised - please contact to confirm costs]
  • Lunches
  • Coffees/teas/alcohol
  • Nutritional snacks such as gel's and bars
  • Hotel charges such as mini bar and phone

How much extra money should I bring along?

Allow for $20 NZD per day for lunch. Add in a few dollars if you are an avid coffee drinker and a few more dollars if you would like an extra beer or two. We cover the first round of drinks each night.

One month before the start of the tour.

Packing suggestions

You should be able to fit everything that you need for the MTB tour in a bike box and your one carry on. In the bike box will have your bike, tires slightly deflated (no need to take air out of your shock), hydra pack, tubes and most of your clothing (packed in plastic bags/zip lock bags). Put anything and everything to take the weight up to the maximum weight 23kg (Max weight for Air NZ).

This then means that you only need to pay for only one checked bag. Please make sure that you are under the baggage limit of 23kg (Air NZ), airlines are now super strict and the costs are high!

In your carry on, have your helmet and shoes, just in case your bag does not make the final destination.

The 'dress code' for dinner is laid back, jeans and t-shirts are more than okay.

Payment can be made by Square Up - Amex, MasterCard or Visa* - there are transfer fees associated with Credit Card payments. Please contact us so that we can send you an invoice from Square Up.

Who are our adventures for?

This adventure is for the rider, come along and see, ride and enjoy this amazing MTB mecca.

Travel with your bike, ride with local legends, eat amazing meals, learn some MTB skills from the best in the business, have everything organised so all you have to worry about is riding your bike.

Riders should have a high level of fitness and be prepared for flowing single track - Beginner through to Intermediate and Advanced level riders.

Advice for first time Rotorua Riders

We have been lucky enough to have been going on MTB tours since 2009!

At the end of tours, we ask our clients for advice for those who are joining us for their first time:

Do a simple 3 week training program before you leave.

Tim O

Make sure you have good quality knicks and get some miles in your legs before you arrive.

Rob R

Don’t take too many clothes (for off the bike). Train a bit to be fit enough for full days of riding.

Be as fit as you can be, there are so many trails to ride. If my body didn’t stop me I’d ride all day!

Work on your fitness and make sure it's up to scratch as the fitter you are the longer each day you can be out having fun.

Make sure you have at least basic mountain bike skills & fitness.

Relax and take it all in be fit so you can make the most of the trails and the time your got there.

Do long training rides and back it up the next day, so you are fit enough for the long days in the saddle.

Tim G

Relax and enjoy the ride.
